Top 10 Things We Recycle

As the waste management sector in Australia continues to move away from a focus of rubbish removal and disposal towards resource recovery and recycling I thought it would be interesting to have a look at the top 10 materials that we recycle. It was difficult to find the stats specifically for Australia but thanks to Care2?and the National Recycling Coalition?we have compiled the following list:

1. Aluminium

2. PET Plastic Bottles

3. Newspaper

4. Corrugated Cardboard

5. Steel Cans

6. HDPE Plastic bottles

7. Glass Containers

8. Magazines

9. Mixed Paper

10. Computers

This list correlates very closely to our experience here in Australia with our business recycling services.

It will be interesting to see how this changes over the next few years. The growth in e-waste recycling will no doubt see computers moving up that list rapidly. Also with the decline in magazines and newspapers clearly reducing the requirement for these to be recycled I can see these dropping out of the top 10. I would expect to see smartphones on this list pretty soon (you are recycling your smartphones right?!)

As a business it is important that you recycle as much as possible. Not only does it benefit the environment in many ways but it was also save you money. Sending valuable resources to be dumped in landfill is costing you money when you could be getting free collections are even being paid for the above materials.

There are many companies out there that will assist you with the correct recycling and waste management systems. If your current waste collection provider is not helping you to recycle then you really need to be looking elsewhere.
